Burns Dog Original food is composed entirely from natural ingredients, including brown rice, chicken meal, seaweed and vitamins and minerals. This helps support your dog’s everyday health and provides them with plenty of energy. Wheat, beef and dairy – which are often the main cause of allergies in dogs – are not included. Burns Dog Original is a good choice if your dog has sensitive skin or digestion problems caused by food intolerance, as it won’t cause inflammation or irritation.
The high-quality mix contains just over 18% protein, as well as all the fibre, fatty acids and fats your dog needs. This not only keeps your dog in great shape; it’s also very filling, helping them to eat less.

When to use it
If you think your dog might be suffering from a food allergy or food intolerance, it’s important to know the difference between the two.
Food allergies are caused by your dog’s immune system reacting to proteins in food. Proteins are normally broken down into their smallest parts before being absorbed by your dog. If the proteins are absorbed whole, however, the immune system reacts. This can cause skin infections, bald patches, itchy skin and even vomiting.
A food intolerance, on the other hand, means that your dog has sensitive digestion. If your dog suffers from diarrhoea or vomiting after eating certain foods, these could be symptoms of food intolerance. In order to provide the correct portions when feeding your dog or cat, it is also helpful to assess your pet's appetite, visual appearance and stools. Whilst poo watching does not sound particularly pleasant, it is one of the best indicators of health. Increased frequency of passing faeces, production of large quantities of stools of loose motions are often frequent signs that an animal is receiving more food than he or she requires.
It is important to obtain an accurate weight for your cat or dog, and also to weigh out the food. Guessing on both accounts gives a large margin of error.
For a successful diet change, we recommend following the feeding pattern below. The daily feeding amount should be split into two equal amounts and the proportions of new food increased over the first week as illustrated.
TOP TIPS: For those dogs who do not make eating a priority, here are some additional points:
- Reduce the number of tit-bits given during the introductory period
- If your dog has been used to eating wet food, moisten with warm water.
